Welcome and thanks for visiting Special Olympics Nebraska’s
website. There are many things occurring within our organization,
we hope you will take the time to see how we are serving over
3,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities throughout
Nebraska.
Most people are familiar with our Annual Summer Games at
the Creighton University Campus in Omaha but are not aware
of the year-round state and area competitions hosted throughout
the state. In addition to our competitions, we also manage
the athlete registration process and the volunteer screening
process. We provide public speaking training for athletes
to serve as ambassadors for Special Olympics, called Global
Messenger Training. During our State Summer Games we provide
dental, vision, hearing and physical fitness screenings
for our athletes. Annually, we provide coaches training to
meet guidelines set by national governing bodies and standards,
as well as leadership training for key volunteers and family
members so they can have the information they need to provide
the best services to our athletes.
Special Olympics is not in the business of sports, we are
in the business of changing lives. The lessons athletics
teaches cannot be matched. Our athletes learn how to set
goals, they learn determination, and they learn how to win
and lose with the highest degree of sportsmanship and dignity.
We directly impact thousands of lives -- whether it’s
helping an athlete develop into a self-sufficient, employed
member of society, or providing incredible moments of joy
for a severely handicapped athlete that otherwise would have
none.
Thanks again for your interest in Special Olympics Nebraska!
